Being in lockdown isn’t easy, but we are very privileged — we have shelter, food, water, soap and THE INTERNET! That last one probably being the most important for many ;).
Below are the best (and FREE!) online resources we’ve heard about so far to keep your little one active and entertained. We’re grateful for all these creative things to do. No particular order.
1. Cosmic Kids Yoga
YOGA: We’ve done a couple yoga videos and love how Cosmic Kids incorporates stories and fun with mindfulness and exercise.
2. Go Noodle
DANCE/MOVEMENT: We’ve only seen some of the videos featured under the Good Energy section, but have been well-entertained in a headache-inducing sort of way… There seems to be a wide range of videos from high energy dance videos to more mindful focused ones. My 3yo particularly likes this odd “Melting” video, which is like a mindful cool down lead by a blue sugar-cookie-looking cartoon.
3. Mo Willems Lunch Doodle
DRAWING: Every 1pm ET weekdays, join Mo Willems (author of the Elephant and Piggie Books) for his livestream LUNCH DOODLES. Mo’s voice is really soothing and there is something meditative about watching him doodle.
4. Outschool Online Classes
VARIOUS: Outschool.com offers a wide variety of live online classes for kids 3 – 18 years old. They have a bunch of free resources for parents and educators available to help during Covid-19. They’re grouped by topics like Music, Arts, Science, Math, etc. I saw classes from intro ukelele, singing along to Frozen songs with the instructor dressed as Elsa, to College prep and Forensic Science.

5. Sesame Street Caring – Covid19 Resources
VARIOUS: Beloved Sesame Street has launched a caring site to help your family breathe, laugh, and play together. There are some great pdfs, videos and interactive games.
6. Dance Place – Dance Class Videos
DANCE/MOVEMENT: Love these videos from Dance Place in DC! Creative Movement by Ms. Allison is awesome and perfect for 3 – 6 year-olds. There are several others including a Step Dance class I enjoyed for older kids. If you enjoyed it, consider donating to them via the link on their site.
But, remember nothing beats taking a break to get outdoors. How about learning to ride a bike?
